  Dragon Spirit

  Stand out version - N.E.S
Bandai really went town on the N.E.S version of Dragon spirit, fantastic presentation, great music, cool bosses, extra stages, it all equals a great game.

  Enforcer - Fullmetal Megablaster

  1 player
  Stand out versions - C64
Fantastic, frenetic blaster from the people who brought you Turrican and Katakis, probably the best graphics for any C64 shooter ever.

  Fantasy Zone

  1 player
Stand out versions - Master System, N.E.S
Fantastic over the top colourful graphics and addictive gameplay come together perfectly in this shooter, the game basically entails flying about disposing of all the spawning bases, buying power-ups, and taking out the bosses.

Flying Shark/Sky Shark

  1 Player
Stand out versions - ZX Spectrum, N.E.S
One of the earliest of the really accurate Speccy conversions (though in monochrome) A tough game, but addictive enough to make sure you are forever playing it "just one more time"

  Forgotten Worlds

  1 player
Stand out versions - Master System
Very nice version, the Master System gets around the arcade's control system by implementing an auto fire, the A and B buttons rotating your firing direction instead, which, in my opinion works pretty well, impressive graphics as always for the MS too.

  Gemini Wing

  1 Player
  Stand out versions - C64
I was never a huge fan of the original arcade version of Gemini Wing for some reason, I prefer the less cartoony look and intense action of the C64 iteration, few would disagree that the music is actually better than the original arcade too!

  Gradius/Nemesis

  Stand out versions - N.E.S
All time classic, one of true genre defining games in the shoot-em-up genre.

  Gradius II - Gofer's Ambition

  1 Player
  Stand out version - N.E.S
I'm not too sure if this sequel holds up as well as the original, or Salamander (it's a bit cheap at times) but few would argue that it's still a quality shooter.

  Gradius - Gofer's Ambition II/Nem 3

  1 player
  Stand out version - MSX
Specially made for the MSX episode in the Gradius series, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this one, I like the increased pace of powering-up a lot, it lessens the pain when you die.

  Gun Nac

  1 Player
  Stand out version - N.E.S
loads of great weapons, lots going on, very little slow down and killer robot rabbits, what more do you want from a shooter?

Katakis/Denaris
1 Player
Stand out version - C64

Unfairly labeled nothing but a clone of R-Type (the game nicks it's power-ups and some of the design) Katakis is very much a game in it's own right, playing very differently to R-Type, it also has one of the best soundtracks to grace any shmup ever.
