  Snow Bros

Snow Bros is a Bubble Bobble alike game which has you covering the enemies with snow and then rolling them down the levels, its a joy to play in multiplayer, but is now a bit expensive to buy unfortunately.

  79num Darkwing Duck

Another great Capcom game from a Disney license, this time similar to their Mega Man series' but with game play entailing more climbing and hanging. As usual Capcom's talent for game play design shines through and creates yet another platforming classic for them to boast about.

  Super Dodge Ball

An excellent sports game from the people that made River City Ransom and Nintendo World Cup (the latter of which unfortunately just missed the top 100). Technos' sports titles really should be commended for their uniqueness, they don't take themselves too seriously and all actually reward the player for acting as un-sportsman-like as possible, this really adds a level of chaotic fun to the proceedings.

  SCAT

Natsume's great shooter in the vein of Forgotten Worlds, which, in my opinion may actually be better than it's source material (at least where home console versions are concerned). The game play is a lot of fun, especially in 2-player co-op and the graphics are also well done.

  Zombie Nation

A strange and quirky shmup, that contains so much wanton destruction of buildings that it sort of feels like the old arcade game Rampage. The main point of the game is to pretty much survive (a given) whilst destroying as many buildings as possible and rescuing the falling Zombie hostages.

  Puzznic

Taito's tile matching puzzle game is both clever and addictive and really shows the fact that as a company Taito could succeed at making great games in pretty much any genre they put their mind to.

  Gremlins 2

Why Sunsoft are not held in as high regard as other classic 8-bit developers is beyond me, Gremlins 2, like all their other NES games is a really great and unique game. Its a fantastic top down shooter which also contains many platforming and adventuring elements, and has some excellent music and presentation (even with Ninja Gaiden-esque cut scenes between levels). It only loses some places as I feel the difficulty level may be a little high for those not experienced with the genre.

  Snake Rattle N' Roll

A unique Isometric platformer from Rareware. Game play consists of eating the creatures you find until reaching a set tail length then getting to the end of the stage. though it takes a little time to get used to its more fun than it sounds and has a very good 2-player mode too.

  Ghosts N' Goblins

One of the all-time arcade platforming classics, from a time when developers thought the more difficult the game play was the better the game. Its certainly fun but the graphics are a big step down from the arcade original, and the whole thing can be very unforgiving and frustrating. Sadly these days most people probably wouldn't have the required patience to enjoy it.

  Legacy of the Wizard

Legacy of the Wizard is an absolutely massive sprawling platform adventure game, I'd liken it to the original Legend of Zelda but with a side view perspective. Its actually a member of the Dragon Slayer series (along with Faxanadu) a series which contained many games and whilst never achieving notable popularity in the west gained good success in Japan.

  Journey to Silius

Sunsoft's take on the Mega man series may not have been very original in the game play department, but with its darker and less cartoony atmosphere, and phenomenal music (some of the best on the system) it managed to etch itself into the NES community's conscience, and remains a very popular game even now.

  Final Fantasy

The first ever Final Fantasy game, the game which started it all, a classic in its day and a real milestone for JRPG's. Sadly as an experience Final Fantasy really hasn't aged that well, but its still more than worth checking out for its importance alone.

  Chip N' Dale

An absolutely fantastic 2-player platform game from Capcom that would probably have entered much higher on this list if it wasn't so disappointingly short and easy, absolutely fantastic while it lasts though.

  Fire N' Ice

The sequel to Solomon's key isn't really that much like the original, but its still manages to be equally great. This time you have to work out the best way to put out the fires by pushing ice blocks onto them.

  Startropics

Startropics is another excellent adventure game made by Nintendo, many criticize it for being overly similar to The Legend of Zelda but this is a little unfair, sure it shares some game play elements but with its greater emphasis on switches, running narrative, new elements, and widely different atmosphere it manages to come across as a very different experience.

  Vice: Project Doom

A very high quality action game. Vice contains some very polished game play, loads of variation (some levels are side scrolling platform affairs whilst others are similar in style to Spy Hunter) and some great presentation with high quality, ultra cheesy cut scenes.

  Super C/Probotector II

Sure apart from the in-between levels (which are now in a top down shooter style) its very much like the first one, but it's from the Contra series, and like all Contra games it rocks, need i say more?

  Tiny Toons Adventures

Ok, so this game is pretty much Konami's clone of Super Mario Bros 3, but when the source material is unarguably one of the greatest platformers of all time is that really a bad thing? what Tiny Toons gives you is a chance to re-play a slightly different take on an amazing game (preferably after Mario 3's already been completed), and to be fair to it there are some cool new additions anyway (such as the choice of different characters when you start a stage)

  ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  Marble Madness

Great, if not occasionally frustrating puzzle game where you have to guide a marble across the stage within a time limit, inspired later games like Super Monkey Ball.

  ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  Gradius

All time LEGENDARY shooter which really pushed the genre forwards with its excellent power-up system. Pretty much awesome in all aspects and only beaten by it's own very high quality sequels.
