What we thought

"Mega Man's level design is excellent and the way that you collect new weapons and have to use the right one for the right situation is very good. The secret weapon hidden in Guts Man's stage was also very useful and added some exploration to the game. Overall its a challenging game with very enjoyable music that's up to Capcom's usual standard. For 1987 this really stands apart from others, though I do personally prefer Ghosts N' Goblins myself."

"I feel as though this game is amongst the best of its era, it definitely stands up to games of its time such as Ghosts N' Goblins, Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Castlevania and such. Its quite a long game and its got its own gimmick with the upgrade weapons, these upgrades keep giving you new abilities to try out as the game progresses and keep the game interesting, as well as providing some strategy elements. I also like the graphics and the Astro Boy-influenced character design, and the bosses are also pretty notable in size and design. I feel like I may have been unfair to this first Mega Man in the past because in comparison to what was available at the time this really does stand out.
