Mega Bomberman |
| |
The Bomberman series, some of the most popular and addictive multiplayer games out there. This iteration is actually a downgraded port of the TG-16's Bomberman 94', but seeing as that was one of the best Bomberman games of all time this slightly lessor version still turns out great on Mega Drive, with the multi-player playing as excellently as it ever did. |

Toejam and Earl |
| |
The developers went for a much more linear platforming style to the second game in the series, and I feel that it helps to make the game a bit more accessible, The offbeat charm and humour that made the first game great is still there in spades too. |

Elemental Master |
| |
An interesting vertical scrolling shooter which has you playing on foot (instead of the usual spaceship) this has the effect of making environmental hazards play a larger part hare than in most other games of the genre, the game play is a class act throughout and there's some above average presentation with nice cut scenes too. |

Shadow Dancer |
| |
After making The Revenge of Shinobi Sega went back to their roots with Shadow Dancer, making it much more of a sequel to the original game than any of the other games of the series, as such Shadow Dancer is a very different experience to the other Mega Drive Shinobi games, being much more action based, with a more arcade orientated feel to it. Adding the dog to help you was also a very nice touch. |

The Addams Family |
| |
Playing very much like an evil twin version of the Mario games, The Addams Family doesn't shy away from expecting the best from its player, punishing anyone not up to the challenge and rewarding those with perseverance some compelling non-linear game play that contains a lot of freedom. |

Hyperstone Heist |
| |
Not quite up to the standard of the SNES' Turtles in Time, Hyperstone Heist is nevertheless still an awesome Turtles game to be proud of, its basically a remix of sorts of all the previous Turtles beat-em-ups played with the then up to date Turtles in Time game play and controls. |

Samurai Shodown |
| |
Take Street Fighter and add weapons and animal helpers and you pretty much get what Samurai Showdown is about. The game was ported excellently to Mega Drive and unlike the Street Fighter ports really took advantage of the hardware. Probably my favourite SNK fighting game. |

Comix Zone |
| |
This really was a step in the right direction for the beat-em-up genre, here we have the usual classic fighting and action the genre is known for, but with the addition of puzzle solving, item management and branching paths to flesh out the experience a lot more. The whole game uses a unique style where the levels actually take place over the frames of a comic book which looks great and works very well. |

Lost Vikings |
| |
Perfect Puzzle/Platformer hybrid, you get three dwarves each with varying abilities and weaknesses and the feature of swapping them on the fly, the levels are built around working out which of the three best suits each obstacle ahead and using him accordingly. The Mega Drive version has slightly lower quality music over the SNES original, but does run in higher resolution and has some extra levels. |

Battle Mania Dai Gin Jou |
| |
This import only sequel to Trouble Shooter was a huge improvement in pretty much every aspect, containing much more interesting level designs and some really impressive graphics. The game is basically a horizontal shmup but here you actually control two people at once, one of which can be set to forward or rear firing. |

Dynamite Headdy |
| |
Treasure really must have known the in's and out's of the Mega Drive as their games always seemed to look better than 95% of the competition. Dynamite Heady is no exception, and apart from the graphics contained fun, varied game play with impressive set-pieces throughout, the boss battles are also rarely anything short of phenomenal in their design and execution. |

Tiny Toons |
| |
For some reason Konami seemed to feel that they had to always use the Mega Drive's faster processor to the max and make all their games as fast as possible (not that I'm complaining) I feel that Tiny Toons benefited from this design ethos, as the game play turned out very fast, uncluttered and exhilarating, the password system was also a welcome addition. |

Revenge of Shinobi |
| |
Haters seem to only associate the Mega Drive with Sonic, they'll moan about "lack of depth" and so forth, conveniently forgetting that Sega have more than one classic series at their disposal anyway, and you could hardly criticize the Shinobi series as lacking in depth, with it's precision based game play, versatile moves and selectable specials. In my opinion Shinobi is just as important as the more famous hedgehog in defining the Mega Drive. |

Ranger X |
| |
A very original platform shooter where you play as a vehicle that can split into two sections both of which you still get control over (so long as you have a 6 button controller) the graphics are phenomenal and you wonder how the colour variety could be possible for the old Mega Drive. |

Vectorman |
| |
Great run and gun game that has a totally unique look of it's own and some really nice lighting effects. The game play is simply excellent and the variety of different types of levels really helps to keep everything interesting from start to finish. |

Micro Machines 96' |
| |
By the release of this iteration of Micro Machine's Codemasters had really had the time to craft their game play to perfection, the levels were more colourful and varied and the multiplayer was even more excellent than ever, this time with a track editor included for good measure too. An essential purchase for racing fans. |

Flink |
| |
One of the more criminally under-appreciated games on the system, Flink contains a fantastic distinctive art style, excellent fluid game play that's augmented with many clever elements and variety, and loads of impressive effects and bosses. The game did happily get a spiritual sequel in the form of the PS1 game Lomax. |

Shining Force |
| |
Sequel to the great Shining in the Darkness, Shining Force was a strategy game as opposed to the previous dungeon crawler and this ended up working much better. The story, graphics and strategy elements all worked very well and this style ended up being the route that the series would end up taking for future releases. |

Flashback |
| |
After the influential Prince of Persia and Another World, Flashback stormed onto the gaming scene using the same immersive control and animation, but this time with some excellent level designs, variety and atmosphere too. |

Populous |
| |
A ground breaking and highly influential sim which sees you playing the part of a god, and to be honest who doesn't want to experience having that sort of power? |
